70-90 researchers and research assistants work at the department. In the summertime the amount increases as students join the research work as research assistants. Some of them also continue to work part-time during the academic year. There is a lot of variation in the numbers as many of those who graduate as masters, licentiates and doctors leave to work elsewhere in companies or other universities.

Researchers have been divided into seven research groups, each with their own research focus.

Electronic circuit design group works at the building of electrical engineering and the rest of the groups in Micronova building. More than 100 accepted scientific publications have been published each year.
